The Faculty of Management and Economics Qurna at the University of Basra organized a workshop entitled "Addressing the phenomenon of cyber extortion"
The workshop aimed to raise community awareness and contribute to reducing the number of victims, which in turn contributes to building a safe society.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Basma Kazar Hassan, included a discussion of several topics, most notably the definition of cyber extortion and its various forms, the factors leading to the spread of this phenomenon, and the psychological, social and legal effects of cyber extortion.
The workshop came up with a set of recommendations, most notably the need to intensify awareness campaigns on the dangers of cyber extortion, strengthen legislation and deterrent laws to combat this phenomenon, and provide support platforms and psychological and legal counseling for victims of cyber extortion.
