A master's thesis at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Basra examined the sensitivity of four eggplant varieties to the cotton bug (Aphis gossypii) and its control using some biocontrol agents.
The thesis of researcher Shams Abdul Rahman Jassim included conducting a field survey, recording the percentages of infection and planting four varieties at the Agricultural Research Station, and the thesis aims to evaluate the sensitivity of four varieties of eggplant to infection with the insect, the selection of varieties tolerant of infection, the effect of infection on plant productivity, and the calculation of the numerical density of the insect from the germination stage to the germination stage, and the thesis concluded that the highest density of the insect during February and March and the lowest during May.
The letter recommended the use of biological control as an alternative to pesticides.
