University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Visit to the Basra Environment Department
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a visit to the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the southern region as part of a series of scientific and awareness activities for fifth-year students.
The visit aimed to introduce students to how institutions work in monitoring pollution and protecting individuals and informing them of the techniques for preserving the environment.
The visit included a tour of the specialized laboratories of the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement and learning about its mechanism of work in examining the percentage of pollution with heavy metals and detecting pathogens in water.
During the visit, the Director of the Department, Dr. Waleed Al-Moussawi, was met, who stressed the need to pay attention to the environmental aspect with the challenges facing their work in addition to the role of companies and factories in water and air pollution, emphasizing the importance of afforestation, which contributes significantly to reducing pollution.
He also touched on climate changes that have caused the extinction of some wild animals, in addition to the increase in poaching rates.
