Members of the University of Basra organize a protest against the attack on its symbols
Members of the University of Basra organized a protest against the assault on the symbols of science and knowledge.
The protest included raising banners denouncing the transgressions and statements against scientific figures, which throughout its bright history has provided thought leaders, pioneers of science and distinguished professors who carried the message of science with honesty and sincerity, and were lamps of guidance that illuminated the paths of generations.
Dr. Muhannad Hamed Abboud, Director of the Department of Scientific Affairs, condemned the assault on the university's scientists and professors and called on the government and security authorities to hold accountable the hidden hands behind the assault and the yellow pens that rumored and exaggerated the events.
He added that the University of Basra is not an arena for settling accounts and will not be held hostage in the hands of those who are obsessed with using illicit money and despicable behaviors to impose their own agendas, and that the law, justice and the conscious academic community are in front of them and will not stand idly by in the face of these transgressions.
The Director of Scientific Affairs pointed out that this attack did not deter the determination of faculty and staff at the university from carrying out their work in the service of Iraq's science and scholars. The statement called for the protection and fortification of the university away from political clashes and conflicts, and stressed that there are legal measures that will be taken against anyone who unjustly attacks the university and will deter anyone who trades in the reputation of scientists and sober academic institutions.
