A Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Association of Genetic Polymorphisms with Susceptibility to Parasites
A master's thesis at the College of Science at the University of Basrah examined the prevalence of echinococcosis in Basra Governorate and the association of genetic polymorphisms with susceptibility to parasites.
The thesis of student Fatima Naeem Mahoud aims to investigate the relationship between TLRs gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to echinococcosis, and to study the factors that contribute to the development of the disease such as age and gender.
The thesis concluded that the Asp299Gly TLRs gene polymorphism is statistically a protective mutation, and the protective effect was observed in females and not males.
