As part of improving agricultural production A master's thesis at the University of Basra examines the infestation of eggplant plants by the leaf miner insect.
A master's thesis at the University of Basra's College of Agriculture investigated the use of some fungi and plant extracts to control the leafminer insect on some eggplant varieties.
The researcher's thesis aims to study the effect of some varieties and biocontrol agents (plant extracts and fungi) in controlling the mobile stages of leafminers on the eggplant crop in the laboratory and field.
The thesis included a chemical analysis of eggplant plant varieties, a survey of greenhouses and open field cultivation in Basra governorate planted with eggplant plants to identify the species of leafminers and study their numerical density and distribution on the eggplant crop.
The thesis concluded that microbial suspensions of some fungi were remarkably effective in controlling the insect, as well as neem leaf extracts and castor leaves and seeds showed good efficacy in controlling the insect.
