A scientific study at the University of Basra looks to maximize the efficiency of drilling in wells

A scientific study at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Basra, prepared by students as part of their graduation project, looked to maximize the efficiency of drilling in deviated wells using artificial intelligence-based ROP technology.

The study, which was published at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) in February 2025 in Malaysia, and indexed in the Scopus database. Machine learning approach to optimize the rate of penetration (ROP) in S-shaped wells using drilling data from southern Iraq.
