A master's thesis at the University of Basra's Faculty of Agriculture investigated the qualitative characteristics and nutritional value of some imported fish species and their suitability for human consumption.
The thesis, submitted by master's student Anfal Ali Obaid, aims to study the chemical composition, nutritional value and some characteristics of frozen fish meat imported to Iraq in Basra markets, and to study the concentrations of trace elements and compare them with the limits allowed in the standard specifications.
The thesis concluded that the qualitative characteristics of the fish were within the recommended limits, and the total number of bacteria was within acceptable limits for all types of frozen imported fish.
The letter recommended monitoring border crossings to ensure hygienic conditions in refrigerated vehicles, monitoring frozen fish warehouses, and conducting awareness campaigns on everything related to frozen fish.
