The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a training course on essential oils, one of the most important active compounds in medicinal plants.
The course aims to introduce participants to essential oils and how to extract them from plants for sustainable development in improving production.
The course, which was lectured by Dr. Warud Hantoush Naama, Dr. Fatima Ali Hassan, and Dr. Haider Sabih Sheno, included a detailed explanation of essential oils in plants, methods of extraction, and the therapeutic importance of some essential oils.
Practical tests were conducted in the laboratory of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Unit on the methods of extracting essential oils with the Clavanger and Scolyte apparatus, explaining the working technique of the devices used in the extraction and the work of the oil press, and reviewing the other laboratory devices and the basis of their work.
