University of Basra organizes a seminar on foot and mouth disease
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basra organized a seminar titled "Foot and Mouth Disease between reality and media hype" in the presence of academics and officials.
The seminar aimed to introduce the foot-and-mouth disease, its causes, ways of spreading it and the prevailing strains in the province.
The seminar, which was attended by Dr. Kamal al-Din al-Saad and Dr. Zainab Majeed from the Veterinary Hospital in Basra, included a definition of the disease, the animals it affects, methods of prevention using vaccines, the severity of the disease on the ground, the extent of media exaggeration, and the role of agriculture and veterinary in limiting the disease through continuous detection and vaccination campaigns, animal breeders' awareness and community education about not transmitting the disease to humans.
