A master's thesis at the University of Basra's College of Engineering examined the simulation of the flood resulting from the hypothesis of the Derbandikhan Dam collapse
The thesis aims to introduce the importance of Darbandikhan Dam as one of the vital dams in Iraq that contributes to the flow of water and provides water reserves for multiple purposes, and its collapse poses a great danger to the stability of the water system and the surrounding environment.
The thesis presented by student Issam Zaher Khader included four chapters in which he discussed the causes of dam collapse, and the most dangerous scenario for the Darbandikhan Dam due to the phenomenon of overfilling the reservoir where the reservoir is filled to the level of the top of the dam. The research relied on the computer modeling method to analyze the data using the unstable 2D HEC-RAS model and with the help of GIS software to prepare the necessary digital data and maps such as DEM map and land use map with 12.5m and 10m resolution respectively.
