For Sustainable Development and Preservation of Ecological Balance and Biodiversity, University of Basrah Organizes a Course on the Importance of Predatory Insects in the Ecosystem
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a course on the importance of predatory insects in the ecosystem to support sustainable development plans for the preservation of biodiversity.
The course, presented by Dr. Huda Kadhim Ahmed and Dr. Zainab Fadhel Mansour, addressed the importance of insects in recycling nutrients, pollinating crops and wildflowers, decomposing carcasses, and feeding other organisms in the food chain. The significant decline in their numbers threatens the entire ecosystem, knowing that it is not too late to reverse these effects.
The course attributed the decline in predatory insects to several factors, including the excessive use of pesticides, climate change, and the destruction of nature through forest burning and logging.
