University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Urban Growth in Basra
The Center for Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies at the University of Basrah organized a workshop titled "Applying the Multiple Nuclei Theory to the Urban Growth of Basra for the Period 1800-2024 AD."
The workshop, presented by lecturer Amjad Yasser Abdul-Redha, concluded that the multiple nuclei theory is the most appropriate and applicable theory for the city of Basra for the period between 1800 and 2024 AD. The first nucleus was the Old City of Basra, followed by another nucleus in the early nineteenth century, Al-Ashar, followed by Al-Maqal. Each nucleus arose due to independent economic, social, and political factors and variables that later led to the expansion of Basra to its current status.
