University of Basra research discusses gallstones in children
Board research at the University of Basra's Faculty of Medicine discusses gallstones in children with sickle cell anemia in Basra.
The research, presented by Arab Board of Health Specialties student Ban Khalil Hassan at Basra Women and Children's Hospital, aims to study the percentage of children suffering from gallstones in children with sickle cell anemia in Basra.
The research included a discussion of a large proportion of pediatric patients with sickle cell disease who suffer from gallstones. The research showed that 15% of sickle cell anemia patients suffer from the presence of gallstones, and their percentage increases with severe forms of the disease, age, increased vascular occlusive crises, increased hospitalization, and more frequent blood transfusions than those who do not suffer from gallstones.
