For sustainable development in preserving natural resources, University of Basra organizes a course on alternatives to water use in the oil industry
The Marine Science Center organized a training course titled Freshwater Alternatives in the Oil Industry.
The course aimed to find other alternatives to the consumption of river water in the extractive and refining industries in Iraq due to the pressure on natural resources and a serious threat to the future of water in Basra.
The course, which was lectured by Dr. Hassan Khalil Hassan, addressed the use of modern techniques as alternatives to injecting oil wells with fresh water to increase the productivity of oil reservoirs, such as injection with carbon dioxide gas, polymeric materials, nitrogen, water vapor, the use of thermal techniques or the combination of more than one method to separate the oil with some petroleum solvents to facilitate the extraction process.
