University of Basrah Organizes the Second Edition of the University Documentary Film Festival
The College of Fine Arts at the University of Basrah organized the second edition of the University Documentary Film Festival on the stage of the College of Arts Theater. The event was attended by the President Assistant for Academic Affairs, Dr. Haider Khazal, the Director of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department, Professor Jabbar Amin, and a group of academics and specialists.
In his speech, the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Dr. Nasser Samari, highlighted the cultural and social importance of documentary film and its effective role in highlighting societal issues and shedding light on topics related to the culture and identity of the city of Basra.
For his part, the Head of the Audiovisual Department, Dr. Qusay Abdul Abbas, explained that documentaries represent an artistic tool for reading and analyzing reality and contribute to raising the level of artistic production within the city by transforming real events into effective semantic discourse.
Festival founder Essam Jaafar stated that the second edition of the festival featured twenty documentaries produced by students from the College of Fine Arts, expressing stories deeply rooted in the city of Basra, whose history spans over a thousand years. He emphasized that documentary films are a powerful means of expression for the college's students.
The festival concluded with artistic performances by the university choir, and awards were distributed to the winning students.
It's worth noting that the festival reflects the University of Basra's interest in the visual arts, which are a tool for cultural and creative communication. It also underscores the university's commitment to supporting and developing student talent within an integrated academic and artistic vision.
