For Sustainable Development in Addressing Climate Change in Sea and Ocean Waters, University of Basrah Organizes a Course on the Colors of Seas and Oceans
The Marine Science Center organized a course on the causes of the coloration of sea and ocean waters and ways to benefit from it scientifically.
The course aimed to understand the environmental changes occurring in sea and ocean waters, predict their future circulation, and study climate change to develop appropriate solutions for sustainable development.
The course, presented by lecturer Faiz Younis Khalil, covered the nature of color and light behavior in modern physics, the classification of color, how it absorbs light, and how it is perceived by the human eye. It also reviewed the optical properties of color analysis and transparency, comparing them with the results of NASA's Ocean Color Web, which is supported by scientific instruments and satellites to measure and monitor changes in the color of land, oceans, and seas.
