President of the University of Basrah Inaugurates the 13th Scientific Conference at the College of Law
The President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, inaugurated the 13th Scientific Conference held at the College of Law in collaboration with Shatt Al-Arab University College, under the title “Legal Protection of the Human Right to Health.” The event coincides with the celebration of the 61st anniversary of the University of Basrah’s founding.
In his opening speech, the University President stated:
“This conference embodies a great humanitarian value that lies at the heart of civilized societies and forms a fundamental pillar for ensuring justice and human dignity. The right to health has become one of the fundamental rights recognized by international covenants, foremost among them the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights—all of which affirm every individual’s right to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical, mental, and psychological health. Hence, the importance of this conference lies in emphasizing the continuity of individuals’ and communities’ access to their right to health.”
Al-Asadi added:
“This is where the role of universities and scientific research centers becomes clear—as incubators of thought and progress—in shaping modern legal concepts related to the right to health, analyzing current legislation, and contributing to its development. The goal is to create a fair healthcare system for all Iraqis that ensures them a life of well-being.”
The conference included discussions of approximately 28 research papers presented by scholars from several Iraqi universities, including Al-Mustansiriyah University, University of Anbar, Maysan, Babylon, Karbala, Kirkuk, Al-Fallujah, Al-Qadisiyah, and Tikrit, in addition to Al-Hadi University College.
