University of Basrah Wins Futsal Championship Cup for the Second Consecutive Year
For the second year in a row, the University of Basrah team was crowned champion of the Iraqi Universities Futsal Championship, held under the sponsorship of the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Authority. The tournament took place in Al-Hadbaa, Mosul, from April 9–17, with the participation of 14 university teams.
Speaking about the final match and winning the cup, Dr. Ghassan Habib Al-Bajjari, Director of the Student Activities Department, said:
“Praise be to God, we succeeded in achieving first place in the championship hosted by the Northern Technical University. We won against the Al-Mustansiriya University team in a thrilling final match that ended in a penalty shootout, with a score of 4-3. It was a tough and competitive game, but through determination, perseverance, and team spirit, we clinched the championship title and carried the cup home for our fans and the beloved University of Basrah – the university of all Basrans.”
Al-Bajjari added:
“I express my gratitude and appreciation for the unlimited support, encouragement, and follow-up from the patron of university sports, the University President, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi. I also extend my deep thanks and appreciation to the coaching and technical staff, our student players, and our organized delegation members—Dr. Atheer Abbas Mustafa, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Amir, Dr. Abdul Ali Jaafar, and Dr. Dhia Askar—for their tremendous efforts from the preliminary rounds and early preparation to ultimately securing first place.”
