Research on the effect of PRP and NAC on tendon healing
A master's thesis at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basra, compared the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on tendon healing after Achilles tendon transection in local dogs.
The thesis, submitted by student Hajar Saywan Haddad, aimed at a comparative study of the therapeutic effects on the surgically induced Achilles tendon defect in dogs and the evaluation of the materials used and their ability to accelerate the healing process.
The thesis included the use of clinical and macroscopic criteria, complete blood count, ultrasound evaluation, and histological biopsy to determine the effect of these materials on the healing of the tendon, which showed a positive effect compared to the control group.
