A master's thesis at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah examined the oil tanker war and its impact on changing the course of the First Gulf War (1980-1988).
The thesis aims to identify the impact of the oil tanker war on the course of the First Gulf War and the extent of that war's impact on relations between Iran and the United States, as well as the economic devastation that engulfed shipping in the Arabian Gulf region.
The thesis, presented by student Natiq Jassim Maktouf, includes four chapters. He discusses the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War and the beginning of the oil tanker war (1980-1984); the escalation of the oil tanker war and the positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries regarding it (1984-1986); the expansion of the oil tanker war and the positions of regional, Arab, and international countries regarding its escalation (1986-1987); and the impact of the oil tanker war on ending the Iran-Iraq War (1987-1988).
