For sustainable development in renewable energy. University of Basra faculty conduct a study to locate solar power plants
Dr. Abdullah Abbas Hussein and Dr. Amer Nehmeh Jarad at the University of Basra's Polymer Research Center carried out a field study to identify the optimal spatial locations in Basra Governorate to establish solar power plants in order to promote and support sustainable development plans in relying on environmentally friendly renewable energy sources as an alternative to power plants that burn fossil fuels that pollute the environment.
The two professors chose southern and western Basra, including Zubair district, as target areas for the establishment of solar panel complexes using remote sensing techniques, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), spatial interpolation techniques, satellite image processing, solar radiation brightness analysis, wind speed and Google Maps data integration to identify suitable locations.
