The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on sustainable solutions to some agricultural issues and climate-smart agricultural practices.
The workshop, which was attended by Dr. Mohsen Abdulhay Dashr, Mr. Ali Rayhan and Mr. Najm Abdullah Abdulnabi, aimed to introduce the most important smart practices in place in Basra Governorate to face climate change.
The seminar addressed the most important practices followed in some farms in the desert lands of Basra Governorate, which included using windbreaks, covering the soil surface with plant residues to reduce evaporation, adding fertilizers with irrigation water, using organic fertilizers, planting new horticultural crops, adding tomato crops after growing them in greenhouses and then moving them to the field, and emphasizing the planting of palm trees to maintain the stability of the soil.
