University of Basrah Researchers Publish Scientific Study in Italian Journal Indexed in Global Databases
Researchers from the Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah—Dr. Ameer Abbas Mohammed, Dr. Ammar Yasser Jasem, Dr. Abdulkarim Tahir Yassir, and Lecturer Qusay Hamed Abdulqader Al-Hamdani—have published a scientific paper titled “Rigor Mortis in Farmed Common Carp Cyprinus carpio: The Effects of Handling Temperature” in the International Journal of Food Science (Open Access), published by John Wiley & Sons in Italy.
The study, which appears in a Q2-ranked journal indexed in both Scopus and Clarivate with an impact factor of 6.2, investigates the impact of temperature on the onset of rigor mortis in farmed common carp. It specifically explores the biochemical changes, pH variation, and chemical composition of the fish before and after the rigor mortis process.
The findings revealed a direct correlation between rising temperatures and the acceleration of rigor mortis in the fish.
