For the First Time in Iraq, University of Basrah Registers Genetic Strains of Newcastle Disease Virus
A research team from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah, consisting of Dr. Waleed Majeed Sakr, Dr. Ali Aboud Issa, and Catherine Bandar Faraj, has registered new genetic strains of the Newcastle Disease Virus in the international gene bank for the first time in Iraq and in the city of Basrah. The strains have been archived under the GenBank reference number: PV254536.1.
The team isolated several viral strains of the Newcastle Disease Virus from broiler chickens in the city of Basrah. After conducting genetic analysis and classification, the strains were preserved as reference entries in the global gene bank.
