University of Basra's Master's thesis on expired metformin hydrochloride complexes
A master's thesis at the Faculty of Science at the University of Basra titled : Preparation, characterization and bioactivity study of some transition metal complexes with expired metformin.
The thesis, submitted by student Zahraa Fadel Hashim, aims to prepare a series of metformin complexes including transition element ions by reacting metformin hydrochloride with platinum(II), platinum(IV), palladium(II), rhodium(III), nickel(II), copper(II) and cobalt(II).
The thesis included the study of the bioactivity of all the prepared compounds for two types of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
The results concluded that this study contributes to the reuse of expired drugs and their conversion into value-added compounds, reducing pharmaceutical waste and promoting sustainable chemistry.
