For sustainable development in the use of green economy ... University of Basra organizes a lecture on the economic feasibility of planting Mangrove trees
The University of Basra's Marine Science Center organized a scientific lecture on the economic feasibility of planting Mangrove trees in Iraq as one of the least expensive economic factors and an effort to support sustainable development plans to improve the environment, reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the air and resist climate change resulting from global warming.
The lecture presented by Dr. Ayman Abdul Latif Kois highlighted the economic and environmental advantages of planting these trees, which are represented by their ability to absorb (5) times more than what trees absorb in nature from the carbon oxidized in the atmosphere and retain it in the soil! It is comparable to the ratio in the cultivation of bamboo trees and even surpasses the latter in providing safe shelters for the growth of fish colonies if they are planted along river shores and sea coasts, in addition to their roots helping to stabilize the soil to reduce the risk of erosion and their retention of algae, plankton and plant grasses, the main source of food for many fish.
