University of Basra organizes a seminar on the Basra Photo Encyclopedia
The Center for Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "Basra's history written by photos: A Reading of the Basra Photo Encyclopedia".
The seminar aimed to highlight the documentary and visual value of the encyclopedia in the history of the city of Basra, and to highlight the role of the image as a means of narrating the social, cultural and urban transformations in the city.
The seminar addressed the methodology adopted in the preparation of this encyclopedia, its various visual sources from rare documents and photos, as well as the field contributions in documenting the visual memory of the city, the technical and scientific challenges faced by the preparation team during the stages of collection, documentation and classification, and the importance of this encyclopedia as a reference source in contemporary historical and cultural studies.
