University of Basra staff continue to combat spider mites on date palm fruits
The Department of Divan Affairs at the University of Basra at Bab Al-Zubair site continued its annual campaign to combat spider insects that infect the fruits of the "Ghubara" palm, as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve the health of the trees and the quality of the crop.
The director of the office affairs department, Engineer Mahmoud Jafar Jassim, said: The work teams began spraying insecticides to combat the spider using the regular preventive schedules followed annually, according to a thoughtful program that takes into account environmental conditions and the extent of the infection.
Mahmoud explained that this control aims to reduce the damage caused by the spider insect, which negatively affects the quality of fruits and palm productivity, stressing that the materials used are authorized by the competent authorities and applied under the supervision of specialized technical cadres to ensure the safety of trees and the surrounding environment.
Mahmoud pointed out: The campaign includes all palm trees at the site, with a focus on trees that have shown early signs of infection, stressing that efforts will continue until the infection is completely eradicated.
