During the ceremony, the President of the University of Basra, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, delivered a speech in which he emphasized: "In these sad days when we welcome the holy month of Muharram, we recall together the immortal epic of Karbala, where Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), his family and his righteous companions wrote with their precious blood the highest meanings of steadfastness, sacrifice and rejection of oppression and tyranny, and raised the flag of pride and dignity that will remain high in the sky of the free."
Al-Asadi added, "From the heart of Basra, and from its scientific edifice, the University of Basra, we renew today the call of pride and faith by raising the flag of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), in an annual tradition that emphasizes the commitment of the people of Iraq to the values of the Hussein revolution and announces the beginning of the season of conscious grief, a season of renewed loyalty to truth and justice.
The university president also pointed out that this occasion coincides with the victories achieved by the axis of resistance, especially the victory of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the usurping Zionist entity, stressing that the banner of Imam Hussein (PBUH) will remain a symbol of steadfastness and defiance in the face of injustice, and that the blood of the martyrs will bloom with pride and dignity until the promise of the free is realized by liberating Palestine and all other usurped lands.
Al-Asadi concluded his speech by calling on the people of the province and the university cadres to uphold the principles of the Husseinite revival and renew the pledge to raise the banner of truth and dignity, praising the university's role in linking science with religious and national awareness, and its constant emphasis on honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs.
