Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates Bioactive Compounds Extracted from Wild Pistachio Species
A Master’s thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, focused on the extraction and biochemical and biological study of certain bioactive compounds derived from wild pistachio species.
The thesis, submitted by student Mujtaba Zain Al-Abideen Abd Ali, aimed to identify the oil content and evaluate the effectiveness of the crude oil extract in wound healing. It also represents a new contribution to the identification of alkaloids in this plant species, with a particular focus on isolating the compound piperine.
The thesis included phytochemical screening and chemical isolation of compounds extracted from various extracts of Pistacia khinjuk fruits — a herbaceous plant belonging to the Anacardiaceae family, with samples collected from northern regions of Iraq.
