University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on the Role of Government Institutions in Ensuring the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
The College of Law at the University of Basrah organized a workshop on the role of governmental and non-governmental institutions in ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities.
The workshop aimed to empower and protect persons with disabilities, emphasizing that achieving this goal requires concerted efforts from all official bodies and the wider community.
The workshop included a lecture delivered by faculty member Mohammed Hassan Badr, who explained that government institutions play a significant role in safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities in accordance with the Law on Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs No. 38 of 2013 (as amended), specifically Articles 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. These articles oblige state institutions to guarantee this segment of society a set of rights, including legal rights, by requiring the Supreme Judicial Council to appoint a lawyer to defend the rights of persons with disabilities.
