PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores Optimal Site Selection for Water Desalination Plants Using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach
A doctoral dissertation at the College of Science, University of Basrah, examined the optimal selection of sites for water desalination plants in Basrah Governorate, southern Iraq, using a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methodology.
The dissertation, submitted by the researcher Noor Abdullah Abadi Al-Najjar, aimed to establish a surface water desalination plant on the eastern side of Basrah Governorate to cover an area of over 5 square kilometers and provide potable water to more than one million people.
The study focused on developing a groundwater desalination plant powered by solar energy within the city of Basrah. It integrated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with MCDM methods such as AHP-TOPSIS and AHP-VIKOR to identify the most suitable sites for these facilities.
