Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Symbolism of Emotion in the Thought of Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him)
A Master’s thesis at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basrah, investigated “The Symbolism of Emotion in the Thought of Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him): A Study in Nahj al-Balagha.”
The thesis, submitted by Abbas Saleh Alwan, aimed to identify the optimal way to employ and harness emotion in the speeches of Imam Ali (PBUH) to foster intellectual awareness.
The study concluded that emotional symbolism plays a significant role in achieving intellectual and societal security, helping to realize the intended goals within Imam Ali’s (PBUH) sermons. It emphasized that emotions take various forms—such as joy, sorrow, anger, and optimism—and highlighted the Imam’s role in confronting societal threats and correcting intellectual and moral decline.
