Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Milk Color Characteristics in Holstein Cows
A master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the color characteristics of milk and their association with certain non-genetic factors in Holstein cows.
The study, presented by graduate student Adyan Aqeel Jawad, aimed to evaluate the use of milk color traits as rapid and indirect indicators for monitoring physiological and productive changes.
The research involved the analysis of 142 milk samples and 110 blood samples from 40 cows across different stages of the lactation cycle.
Findings revealed that color attributes—particularly L* and b* values—were significantly influenced by lactation stage, age, and parity, underscoring their potential as reliable indicators of the animal’s physiological status.
