University of Basrah Holds Memorial Stand and Moment of Silence in Honor of Genocide Victims
The Presidency of the University of Basrah organized a memorial stand and observed a moment of silence in tribute to all Iraqi martyrs and the victims of genocide, coinciding with the National Day of the Yazidis and other Iraqi communities.
The event was attended by the University’s assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Haider Khazaal Mihbas, the assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Ayman Saleh Naama, as well as a number of directors from both administrative and academic departments.
During the commemoration, the organizers recalled the heinous crimes committed by the terrorist organization ISIS against the Iraqi people, including Arabs, Kurds, and other components, particularly the Yazidi community.
They affirmed that the genocide committed against the Yazidis stands as one of the most tragic assaults on this defenseless group. They emphasized that national and humanitarian duty compels society to support the victims’ families, provide appropriate compensation, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and held accountable, no matter how long it takes.
The organizers also stressed the importance of reconstructing the affected cities and implementing vital service, developmental, and infrastructure projects in those areas.
