University of Basrah Allocates Medical Unit to Serve Pilgrims of Imam Hussein’s Arbaeen
As part of its commitment to community engagement and public service, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, in collaboration with the College of Pharmacy at Al-Maaqal University, has established a medical unit along the road connecting the provinces of Al-Muthanna and Dhi Qar. This initiative aims to provide medical and therapeutic services to pilgrims walking toward the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
The Dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, Professor Dr. Jubran Khalil Hassan, stated that this initiative involved the participation of faculty and staff members from both colleges. The medical unit was stationed along the route between the Al-Batha area and Karbala to offer healthcare support to pilgrims. He noted that the visitors appreciated the initiative and considered it a significant and impactful contribution to their spiritual journey.
Dr. Jubran explained that the establishment of the unit was a joint effort with the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Maaqal University, Professor Dr. Falah Hassan Shari, with active participation from staff members of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah. The unit included female staff members to provide healthcare services for women and was equipped with essential medical supplies such as medications, medical supports, belts, and devices for measuring blood pressure and blood sugar, among other necessary tools. All supplies were self-funded by the participants.
It is worth noting that this initiative is carried out annually as part of the voluntary activities undertaken by the Colleges of Pharmacy at the Universities of Basrah and Al-Maaqal, reflecting their role in community service and their active participation in this significant religious occasion.
