Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Criminal Confrontation of Desertification
A master’s thesis at the College of Law, University of Basrah, examined the criminal confrontation of desertification in a comparative study.
The thesis, submitted by student Mohammed Shaker Khairallah, aims to highlight the criminal dimension associated with human activities that lead to desertification, given its serious threat to sustainable development and environmental balance at both the national and international levels.
The study consisted of three chapters in which the researcher discussed models of criminal confrontation as stipulated in the Environmental Protection and Improvement Law, as well as the Law on Forests and Woodlands. These laws define crimes related to this phenomenon, which has significantly worsened in recent years. The thesis also proposed appropriate criminal mechanisms to curb its spread.
