Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Techniques of Ambiguity in Contemporary Poetry
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basrah, examined the techniques of ambiguity in contemporary Basran poetry.
The thesis, presented by graduate student Helen Tuma Ne’ma, aimed to highlight the mechanisms poets employ to express ideas indirectly, such as symbolism, persona, metaphor, and intertextuality.
The study addressed the motives behind the use of these techniques and how they contribute to expanding the semantic scope of poetic texts, making them more open to interpretation and less bound to direct expression. This approach allows readers broader space to interpret the text and uncover its multiple layers of meaning.
