Doctoral Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores “Aesthetic Alterity and the Militarization of Society”
A doctoral dissertation at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, examined the concept of aesthetic alterity and the militarization of society in contemporary Iraqi art.
The dissertation, prepared by researcher Sara Taqi Abdul Kareem, aims to uncover the relationship between the militarization of society and its impact on art.
The study concluded that the successive military experiences endured by Iraqi society have led to the emergence of a revolutionary community that rejects restrictions, relying on art, literature, and media as tools of critique and free expression. This underscores the role of art as a reflective mirror of reality.
