Medical Team at the University of Basrah Successfully Removes Both Adrenal Glands from a Young Patient
A specialized medical team from the College of Medicine at the University of Basrah successfully performed a highly complex and high-risk surgical operation. The procedure was led by Dr. Noufal Ali Al-Mubarak, Dean of the College of Medicine and Consultant Anesthesiologist, alongside Dr. Abdul Ameer Mohsen Al-Darraji, Consultant Endocrine Surgeon, in collaboration with the Al-Fayhaa Specialized Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
The operation involved the removal of both the right and left adrenal glands of a 23-year-old patient from Basrah, who had been suffering from severe hypertension and acute tachycardia. Medical examinations revealed the presence of large bilateral adrenal tumors secreting dangerously high levels of adrenaline (bilateral pheochromocytoma), posing a serious threat to his life.
Following comprehensive medical preparation and the administration of treatments to stabilize his condition, the surgery was carried out with complete success and without complications, despite its exceptional difficulty and sensitivity.
