Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Link Between Biochemical Variables and Genetic Polymorphism in Diabetic Patients
The College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed a master’s thesis on the relationship between certain biochemical changes and the single nucleotide polymorphism (rs1799817) in the insulin receptor gene among patients with type 2 diabetes in Basrah.
The thesis, presented by student Alya Thaer Abbas, aimed to investigate the correlation between biochemical markers and the identified genetic mutation.
The study revealed a statistically significant association between the genetic polymorphism and the disease. It also reported a new discovery registered in the NCBI global database concerning the genetic variant (rs1799817) linked to insulin resistance.
The thesis recommended incorporating betatrophin hormone measurement into routine clinical tests for the diagnosis and monitoring of type 2 diabetes.
