A master’s thesis at the College of Law, University of Basrah, examined the topic of “The Legal Personality of Artificial Intelligence: A Comparative Study.”
The thesis, submitted by Kholoud Tu’mah Hassan, aims to address the legal challenges surrounding the possibility of granting legal personality to artificial intelligence from a legal perspective. It explores the philosophical and jurisprudential foundations of legal personality, while reviewing differing scholarly opinions on whether such recognition can be extended to intelligent entities.
The study is structured into three chapters, through which the researcher discussed proposed models for granting legal recognition to AI and examined the potential legal implications of conferring such a limited personality across various branches of law. The thesis also provides practical and legal recommendations for policymakers on how to regulate artificial intelligence within a legal framework.
