University of Basrah Participates in Local Government Meeting to Discuss Solutions to Water Salinity Crisis
Dr. Sarmed Ghazi, Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, and Dr. Mohsen Abdul-Hay Dasher, Head of the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources, participated in the expanded local government meeting, which was chaired by Mr. Mohammed Al-Battat, Chairman of the Governorate's Agriculture and Water Resources Committee. The meeting was attended by Hassan Al-Najjar, Assistant Governor for Agricultural Affairs, and Dr. Shukr Al-Amri, Chairman of the Financial and Administrative Committee of the Basra Provincial Council, in addition to directors of relevant departments.
The meeting reviewed the recommendations of the symposium held by the University of Basra Presidency, as well as a set of practical proposals to address the water crisis. These included immediate solutions to mitigate the repercussions of the current crisis, as well as long-term solutions focused on the construction of dams and strategic water projects, which would contribute to overcoming challenges and ensuring the sustainability of water resources in the governorate.
