Doctoral Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores Grammatical Interpretation in Tafsīr Bayān al-Sa‘āda
A doctoral dissertation at the College of Arts, University of Basrah, examined “Grammatical Interpretation in Tafsīr Bayān al-Sa‘āda fī Maqāmāt al-‘Ibāda by Sulṭān Muḥammad al-Janābadhī.”
The dissertation, submitted by student Mazin Abdullah Sarool, aims to analyze the concept of grammatical interpretation in Tafsīr Bayān al-Sa‘āda and to uncover its semantic implications through the exegete’s views and grammatical directives. It further seeks to highlight the impact of such interpretations on understanding the meanings of Qur’anic texts and on determining grammatical significations. In pursuing this goal, the study relied on works of Arabic grammar as well as sources of Qur’anic exegesis, meanings, and parsing.
The dissertation comprised four chapters in which the researcher discussed grammatical interpretation and the relationship between grammar and exegesis, grammatical interpretation in nouns and verbs, grammatical interpretation in syntactic structures, and grammatical interpretation in grammatical relations.
