Medical Team at the University of Basrah Successfully Performs Bilateral Adrenalectomy
A medical team at the University of Basrah, led by Professor of Anesthesiology and Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Naufal Ali Al-Mubarak, along with Consultant Physician Dr. Abdulameer Mohsen Al-Duraji, has successfully carried out a highly complex and high-risk surgical operation to remove both adrenal glands from a 23-year-old patient from Basrah.
Dr. Al-Mubarak explained that the patient had been suffering from severe hypertension and acute tachycardia. Diagnostic examinations revealed the presence of two large tumors in both adrenal glands, which were secreting abnormally high levels of adrenaline (bilateral pheochromocytoma), posing a serious threat to the patient’s life.
He added that after thorough medical preparation and administration of appropriate treatments to stabilize the patient’s condition, the surgery was completed with outstanding success and without any complications, despite its complexity and high degree of sensitivity.
