University of Basrah Researcher Publishes Study in a Swiss Scopus-Indexed Journal
Dr. Mohammed Mahdi Al-Mousawi, a faculty member at the Marine Science Center, University of Basrah, has published a scientific study in collaboration with international researchers, titled:
“Metal-Porphyrin-Based Covalent Organic Framework Composite Membranes for Salts and Dyes Separation”
The study appeared in the journal Compounds, issued by MDPI in Switzerland. The journal, indexed in Scopus (Q2) with an impact factor of 2.3, specializes in publishing research on chemical compounds, their properties, and diverse theoretical and experimental applications.
The research focused on fabricating thin, continuous layers of porphyrin-based COF (COF-TCPP Fe) supported by PVDF polymer membranes using the interfacial polymerization method. The study involved the characterization of the composite membranes and evaluation of their performance in filtration processes and the separation of dyes and salts using a closed filtration cell.
The findings revealed a decrease in membrane flux with increased COF concentration during synthesis, while demonstrating enhanced separation performance. The study presents a simplified and effective approach to addressing widespread challenges in covalent organic framework membranes and improving the efficiency of current polymeric membranes.
