Master’s Thesis at University of Basrah Explores Reasoning in the Works of Radi al-Din al-Istrabadi
A master’s thesis at the College of Education – Qurna, University of Basrah examined the topic of reasoning in the works of Radi al-Din al-Istrabadi (d. 686 AH) through the lens of dialectical logic.
The thesis, presented by Moammel Abdullah Najm, aimed to shed light on aspects of reasoning and dialectics in al-Istrabadi’s commentaries on Ibn al-Hajib’s texts, emphasizing the importance of employing dialectical logic in addressing linguistic issues characterized by multiple interpretations and scholarly disagreements.
The study included a theoretical framework introducing the concepts of reasoning and dialectics and their mechanisms, as well as an applied section analyzing examples of morphological and grammatical issues addressed by al-Istrabadi using various reasoning methods.
The thesis concluded with significant findings highlighting the role of reasoning and dialectical logic in consolidating linguistic rules, regulating the transition from the tangible to the abstract, and arriving at conclusions closer to certainty.
