PhD Dissertation at University of Basrah Explores Parasitic Worms in Al-Gharraf River Fish
A PhD dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the taxonomy and ecology of parasitic worms in selected fish species from the Al-Gharraf River in Dhi Qar Province.
The dissertation, presented by Mohammed Hilal Kazem, aimed to conduct a morphological study of parasitic worms found on or within fish, and to determine the prevalence and average intensity of infection across 24 freshwater fish species inhabiting the Al-Gharraf River in southern Iraq.
The research identified 29 parasitic species across nine fish species, and notably recorded five parasite species for the first time in Iraq, contributing valuable taxonomic and ecological insights to parasitology and fish health management.
