Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Derivatives of the Prosopis Plant
A master’s thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, investigated the comparative biological activity of flavonoids isolated from the Prosopis plant and their derivatives.
The thesis, submitted by graduate student Ghadir Sadiq Jaid, aimed to isolate and characterize the natural flavonoid from the Prosopis plant, synthesize its metal derivative, and examine their chemical and spectral properties, in addition to evaluating their anticancer activity and safety on normal cells.
The research involved the isolation of a pure flavonoid compound from the Prosopis plant and the precise determination of its chemical structure, followed by the synthesis of a metal derivative through complexation with a metal ion such as trivalent chromium. The study further assessed the resulting spectral variations and chemical properties arising from this modification.
